(level 1 & 2) – Mental health support worker
Summary
One Step Care is a contemporary organisation that provides support services to people living with a disability with respect, courtesy and dignity. The Support Worker position provides direct support to assist people in home care.
Provide direct support in core areas:
- Personal Assistance: In support of the client’s support plan, assist with toileting, hygiene, showering/bathing, dressing, grooming, lifting, use of mobility equipment and other tasks such as assisting with aids or eating meals.
- Domestic Assistance: In support of the client’s care plan, undertake household duties namely vacuuming, mopping, dusting, laundry, cleaning of bathroom and toilet, food preparation and shopping assistance.
- Social Support: Provide assistance to help service users maintain a social life within their home or accessing community based social services in meeting their need for social interaction and engagement.
- Transport: Provide transport to help service users to access medical and specialist appointments, social outings, shops and the community.
- Behaviour Support Implementation: Provide support to de-escalate behaviours of concern with participants who have a Behaviour Support Plan.
- High Intensity Clinical Supports: Provision of high intensity supports, such as bowel care, BSL testing, tracheostomy care.
Responsibilities include:
- Contributing to developing, implementing and following programmes to assist with daily living of individuals.
- Establish appropriate working relationships by maintaining professional boundaries with clients and other service providers.
- Help promote client’s level of independence at their level of capacity and set out in their Individual Plan.
- Respect the privacy and maintain confidentiality of clients in accordance with Privacy legislation and One Step Care Policies and Procedures in period of employment and period when no longer in employment.
- Ensure positive image is maintained with all undertakings with clients, carers, representatives and community during the course of work hours.
- Report on observations and changes in clients’ health, behaviour, needs and circumstances.
- Perform duties with skill, honesty, care and diligence.
Selection Criteria:
- Commit to the values of the organisation, adhere to the Code of Conduct and Policy and relevant legislation.
- Uphold personal morals, values and attitudes that seek to support the dignity and independence of clients.
- Take responsibility for your own health and safety and the health and safety of others who may be affected by your acts in the course of work.
- Be able to drive a motor vehicle, use a computer, use mobile devices, undertake manual handling, lifting and bending.
- Ability to empathise with others.
- Work with a caring and compassionate approach.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work in a team setting and independently.
- Ability to work with others from culturally diverse backgrounds, being responsive to those differences.
Other requirements:
- Pass a National Disability Worker Check; Criminal Check and Working with Children Check/Vulnerable Person Registration.
- Hold a valid Australian Driver’s Licence.
- Roadworthy motor vehicle with minimum third-party cover (recommended full comprehensive insurance).
- Ability to be flexible with work hours to meet reasonable demands of the position.
- Inform the Director of any conditions that may impact or limit ability to carry out responsibilities required of the role.
Qualification:
- Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing, Home and Community)/ Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability) or equivalent (desirable)
- Previous employment or experience in the health, aged care, disability and community services desirable.
- Current First Aid Certificate including CPR
